148 – that’s the number of people killed (including shooters) in mass shootings since January 1, 2021.

Yesterday, in Kenosha Wisconsin, 3 were killed and 2 injured in the latest incident.

Every week we hear of another mass shooting and another and another.

This is insanity.

This is not about gun rights. It’s about lives: yours, mine, children, relatives, friends, co-workers, anyone who shares the same space in a public location.

A March 24 USA Today/Ipsos poll conducted not long after the mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado found that “2 in 3 Americans think gun laws should be more strict. … Three in five Americans believe the U.S. Senate should pass background check legislation.”

However, what we think and what we believe is not the same as putting those thoughts and beliefs into action.

Every time a mass shooting occurs, social consciousness rises up and declares… It must stop! Yet, in a few weeks, next month, six months, those collective cries for change fade and we slouch back into a familiar status quo absent any meaningful actions.

If we cannot find common ground on common-sense gun legislation — legislation that a majority of the country supports, mass shootings will continue to be our way of life… just one more new “normal” we must accept.

Then there are the police shootings…
