Mike, last month I lauded your courageous stand against your party’s extremists after six unproductive months to help Ukraine (Principle Before Party). Remember that?
“When [Johnson] brought the Ukrainian aid package to the floor last week, his far-right colleagues—who firmly stood against any aid to Ukraine until the Biden administration addressed the border crisis—denounced him.”
Remember Marjorie Taylor Greene’s response? “This is the third betrayal by Mike Johnson. A foreign war package that does nothing for America? It’s unbelievable. I’m thankful that America gets to see who this man is.’”
But you stood your ground:
“I think providing lethal aid to Ukraine right now is critically important.”
Mike, I gave you major ethical points for standing tall. Now, you’re standing small! . . . behind Donald Trump at his New York trial?
“I want to be on the right side of history,” you told a colleague.
Now, you’ve chosen the wrong side.
(Is that you in the background?)
(Yup!)
If this were a movie, I wouldn’t believe it. It would be like Jimmy Stewart’s Jefferson Smith doing an about face and telling his Senate colleagues, “You know, folks, Senator Joe Paine is right. That dam should be built at Willett Creek. Forget all that hooey about building a boy’s camp.”
And we’d have to stop “It’s A Wonderful Life” halfway through the film when George Bailey accepts greedy ol’ Mr. Potter’s offer. “You know Mr. Potter, my father was a poor businessman, so I’ll take you up on your offer of $20,000 a year.”
Remember what you said back in April? “History judges us for what we do. This is a critical time right now. I could make a selfish decision and do something that’s different.”
History is judging you now! It’s a critical time for our country too, and sticking up for Trump at a press conference is about as selfish as it gets.
Why didn’t you follow-up your principled stand by flying to Ukraine to stand next to President Zelenskyy and show your support where it’s needed most?
