In the political landscape crafted by Donald Trump, “Truth is dead.”
Trump’s domination of fear and panic squarely aimed at his supporters has not only diminished American democracy, but morality, itself. This is not the case with most Americans, only those who have been drawn into his Chautauqua tent of lies, and manipulation.
Headline, The Colorado Sun: “I will rescue Aurora and rescue every town that’s been invaded and conquered,” Trump said.
Aurora officials: “Aurora has not been conquered.”
“It’s a campaign tactic that’s as old as time,” said Aurora City Council Member Crystal Murillo.
Misinformation on Immigration and Crime: Trump has been pushing exaggerated claims about crime rates related to immigrants, particularly in Springfield, Ohio.
Claims About Hurricane Response: Trump has made misleading statements regarding the federal government’s response to hurricanes, falsely suggesting that aid is not reaching Republican areas. At a rally in Michigan, Donald Trump declared, without evidence, that “Kamala has spent all her FEMA money, billions of dollars, on housing for illegal migrants” and accused the Biden administration of “stealing the FEMA money.”
This claim has been refuted by officials, including those from his own party, who assert that the impacts of misinformation detract from real disaster recovery efforts. On Saturday, federal emergency workers in Rutherford County, N.C., were directed to stop operations and relocate due to concerns over threats from an “armed militia” in the area.
I struggle to understand how anyone can support someone running for the highest office in the land who spreads false rumors about a devastating crisis where lives and homes were lost.
I struggle to comprehend how we, as a country, can heal and regain faith in one another when–with our own eyes and ears–we witness rescue workers and FEMA teams tirelessly assisting those affected by two of Florida’s most devastating storms—providing food, shelter, and compassion.
Economic Misrepresentations: Trump has continued to assert that the economy was at its best during his presidency, despite data indicating that the COVID-19 pandemic caused significant economic downturns.
Speaking of COVID, here’s what then-President Donald Trump said In March, 2020, regarding the federal response to to the virus during a press conference when asked about the delay in widespread testing in the United States: “I don’t take responsibility at all.”
Inflated Immigration Numbers: Trump recently claimed that “20 million people” have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border under Biden, a number that lacks substantiation. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported over 7 million arrests for illegal crossings, but this figure includes multiple crossings by the same individuals.
Does the border need fixing? You bet! But it doesn’t require Trump’s wild distortions and off-the-cuff lies to find the right bipartisan solutions.
In the last few weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump has embarked on a nationwide March to the Sea of disinformation. His propaganda-against-truth is designed to manipulate his followers into accepting and in some cases, acting on whatever narrative he presents. For months leading up to the November election, he’s created a choose-your-own-reality game that leaves voters lost in a sea of lies and distractions, with real-world consequences threatening the very fabric of our democracy.
Truth may not be dead, but it appears to be in the emergency room waiting for urgent care.
